My name is Edward Adonteng. I am a writer, poet, artist, consultant, horticulturist and academic. I went to Platanos College from 2011 to 2016. Despite being a troublesome pupil, the school’s unwavering faith and belief in its students pay perfect testimony to my story. During my time at Platanos, I was involved in a number of different roles. This included Overall Year Group President throughout KS3, Anne Frank Ambassador, a member of the school’s Debate Team as well as DebateMate championships, Army Cadets, St Johns Ambulance and the Scouts. I believe this is where my passion for presenting, politics and creativity was cultivated and has led me to where I am currently.
Whilst at Dunraven Sixth Form, I became Sixth Form Deputy President and joined the Amos Bursary, as an Associate. After my A Levels, I went on to do my Bachelor’s Degree at Coventry University, studying Politics from 2018 to 2021. I also became a Delegate of the Aleto Foundation and an SEO London Candidate. At the end of my Bachelor’s, I was also awarded the Course Tutor’s Prize for Excellence and Endeavour. Shortly after I went on to do a Masters in Political Thought at SOAS, University of London in September of 2022.
Currently, I am working as a Trust Development Officer back at Platanos. Being referred to as “Sir” or “Mr Adonteng”, it feels very surreal to be back where it all began and to be sitting in the staff room with teachers who once had to chase after me in the corridors.
