My name is Victoria Odubote, and I attended Platanos College (Year 2012 – 2017). Within this secondary school, I explored my interests in sports and challenged myself by taking part in opportunities that brought me out of my comfort zone, finding love for words and learning to speak up. For example, teachers assisted and encouraged me to continue being resilient with my subjects; I participated in sports clubs (such as boxing, dance, badminton, basketball and football), Army Cadets, Girl Guides and became a Prefect. These experiences highlighted to me that what seemed impossible could be possible.
I continued to sixth-form, Christ the King: Aquinas, with the mindset of challenging myself and being resilient, where I explored being a Student Governor, Student Council, and Tutor Representative, winning the Jack Petchey Award and the IoPPN Youth Award in Psychology and Behaviour, and taking part in Realising Opportunities, the Duke of Edinburgh and more. I took part in these positions while undertaking English Literature and Language, Psychology, Biology and Extended Project Qualification courses. These vast experiences encouraged me to go into further education and undertake Psychology at the University of Leicester.
Currently, I am at Platanos College, working and assisting the students from year 7 to year 13. As the Librarian and a Sixth Form mentor, I can encourage students (who were once like me) with their education and mental health. I remain committed to encouraging others to be their best self, engaging in regular physical activity, and exploring my love for words.
